Plot Summary

Youji Itami, an off-duty officer with the Japan Self-Defense Forces and a big fan of anime, is heading to a doujin convention in Ginza, Tokyo. Suddenly, a strange portal in the form of a massive gate opens up. Out of it rush terrifying creatures and knights in old-fashioned armor, wreaking havoc across the city and taking lives. Youji quickly springs into action, doing everything he can to save people while the other JSDF members work to fight back against the invasion. Fast forward three months after the chaos, and Youji has been chosen to lead a special reconnaissance team as part of a JSDF unit. Their mission is to venture into the mysterious world beyond the gate, now called the "Special Region." They need to explore this unfamiliar land, gather information, and try to make friends with the locals in an effort to foster peace with the ruling empire. However, if they do not succeed, they risk being caught up in a terrible conflict that will affect both sides of the gate.
